I didn't know about dry gangrene when we first got Lightning and when I did learn of it 4 yrs. later.....I assumed that it would have gotten progressively worse if that had been her problem. I hate to admit it but when she had her emergency op this summer neither one of us thought to ask the vet about her tail....but then again he didn't say anything about it and she boarded with him for 5 days after her op. Here again, I assume that had she had something that needed to be treated he would have said something. It has not started to re-generate since she lost the tip in late Aug (or was it early Sept?). I understand that babies start the process very quickly. But she's pushing 5 now and I just think it will take a while...if at all.
I'd be very interested in what your vet has to say about your situation. Perhaps he can explain how to tell the difference between gangrene starting and just a dehydration problem. And I'd be interested in any treatment he suggests if it is dehydration.
I'd appreciate any feedback you can share on this after your visit. Until then....mist the tail but don't overdo and cause problems with too much wetness in environment. Take care and my best to the igs!
