I don't think you ever want to put anything on it except water (warm soaks). I'd have to see to know if it's shed build up on the tail, but I know the tail shed on the bottom is very thick anyway (much thicker than the sides of their body) Usually the tail seems to come off little by little in sections each day-- it may take awhile. Sleestack's stomach doesn't shed as much as the rest of him either, but his face sheds like crazy! I help him peel-- probably much to his dismay LOL. I can't stop, I'm addicted and very good at it as I've been doing it for around 10 years. The nostrils are the best! (pop right out when they are ready) I gently help with their eyelids because they scratch and scratch with their back leg since it bothers them so much-- I'd rather they not catch one of their nails in the eye. It sounds like you were helping out as well. Iguanas will let you know when they've had enough help-- (Sleestack will move away or kick my hand out of the way!)
