Yesterday I went into a local petstore, and saw a horrific sight. There was a juvinile iguana (also housed with others) that was sitting on a log. He had beautiful eyes but something didnt seem right, so i went in for a closer look.... the poor thing had front teeth missing, and all the way from the nostrils down was gone! I mean, it looked like the skin had rotted away! There was also something black protruding from its mouth. I wanted to talk to a worker there, but i was upset and almost in tears. I hate seeing animals suffering, esspecially reptiles. I have been trying to figure out what was affecting this iguana, but haven't come up with too much. Could it be severe mouthrot? Please someone give me advice. I am inexperienced with iggies (I keep geckos), but I'm trying to figure this out.
Also, is mouthrot contangious?
I am most definately going to make some complaints, but I want to be as well informed as i can before doing so. Im afraid I wont have much time though, because this iguana did not look good! Please help!
I also do not have internet access, since its the weekend and i cant get into my school (Im actually using a library), so I would really apprieciate if anyone out there could give me some advice.
