The iguana wasn't a young juvinile. It was probably the oldest one in the enclosure. I would say it was about 2 feet long (head to tail). Could the other iggies get infected because of the one sick one?
Petstores really piss me off. I also think that I am way too attached to my animals (then again, that can be a good quality... one which I wish more people would have).
I should probably get out of this library soon, I think the people are starting get annoyed at me hogging the computer.
I have been thinking about adopting the iguana, but (being a college student) I dont have the money, nor the equiptment or experience to get an iguana, esspecially a sick one... and I know how expensive vet bills can get. From the research I've done, they sound like very demanding pets. Man, I feel so horrible saying that! How can I say that I actually care when I won't even save the thing? I can't help but feel guilty. If I did take it home, is it even remotely possible that the infection could hurt my other reptiles?
I really hate petstores. My family and friends see how upset I get by them, and don't even want me going into them anymore.
I plan to head over to the petstore now (on my way to work), and talk with the workers (and management) to see what they have to say about this. Then, I plan to call up my SPCA and lodge some formal complaints. They condition they are keeping their animals in is dispicable.
If there is anyone on from my area... the petstore is a "PJ's Pets" located in Edmonton, AB, Canada. Calgary trail southside location.
