My three month old rhino is undergoing the acclimation process and has taken to hiding much of the day. Since I use lighting to heat his enclosure(100 watt UVA Zoo Med daybulb and Zoo Med 5.0 UVB), and he's not spending a lot of time basking, this is cause for concern. He's eating, but not quite as much as I would like. I'm concerned that he's not staying warm enough to maximally stimulate his appetite. I've never used heat rocks or under tank heating devices due to the possibility of injury if these become too hot. I'm now considering getting a small(6" x 8") under tank heater to heat his hiding/sleeping area and hopefully stimulate his appetite and activity. What is the general consensus regarding under tank heaters? Is there a recommended type or brand that is considered safe? Please respond with your opinions and experiences. Thanks!
