Leash training

I have a 2 1/2 year old iguana. She's about 2' long, including the tail. We adopted her about 2 months ago. All she does is sit in her cage. Everytime we let her out she freaks. We have a leash for her but every time we put her in it and let her walk around she flips out and gets tangled up in it. Any advise on how I can train her into using the leash. Also, is she ok just being in her cage and never being let out. She seems to like it better in her cage but I feel sorry for here not getting out.
