I have owned several snakes and have been very thorough about their
care. However, I have never raised an iguana. Today I adopted an
iguana from a friend of a friend who obviously did not care for it.
It is malnurished, probably dehydrated, and it is crawling with mites.
The iguana is about a year and a half old. Probably the only thing
this iguana has had going for it is that it has been in a good sized cage with a good lighting
system and proper thermal conditions. I need to make an aggressive
effort to get rid of the mights and nurse this animal back to health.
I have been studying iguana care on several internet sites as well
as researching other sources, including a book by Melissa Kaplan.
Any advice from experienced Iguana owners would be greatly appreciated.
Also, can anybody recommend a reptile vet in the Indianapolis, Indiana
area. I do plan on getting this animal to a vet as soon as possible, but
am wanting to know what measures I can take for it in the mean time.
I have enough experience with other reptiles to know that this animal
is not in good shape. However, I don't have enough experience with
iguanas specifically to know exactly how bad off this one is. He is
a beautiful creature and I can't stand seeing him in his present
condition. Please advise.
