HELP ME !!!

The iguana that I just rescued that was abused and was 4 years old just whipped me with his tail. He is not letting me pick him up or even go near him right now. What in the world do i do?????? I need help!! I have never been bitten before and am scared at the moment to try and pick him up. What do i do?? please help me!!
