Sorry to hear this if it turns out to be kidney failure. Is your vet a very good qualified herp vet? Do you trust them? I assume you don't feed your ig any protein... so I'm not sure what the vet meant by that.

I lost my 8 yr old ig to this but perhaps you caught it before it got as severe-- mine would go to the bathroom almost everyday but did have a decrease in appetite. He ended up getting really run down from a bacterial infection (had swallowed many inanimate objects which caused him to get backed up-- couldn't pass them) If I would have had an xray done and removed the objects I maybe could have extended his life. There are so many things I would have done had I only known...

You are doing the best thing right now-- getting tests from the vet to tell you what you're dealing with. Maybe it's something else that can be cured with some antibiotics! Just keep him nice and warm.
