Hi Mike,
Your vet, did they have a culture sensitivity test done to determine if your Ig has Salmonella? This would be the only way that they can determine thatand sometimes this test is faulty as well. Meaning they can have it and it not show up either. Diarrhea can be the result of many different things. You might try some lactobacillus acidophilus powder (friendly bacteria) and see if that might help clear up diarrhea. Then only of it's truly diarrhea.
Loose stolls once a day isn't really diarrhea.
Pooping 4-6 times a day of loose stools is diarrhea.
As everyone else said salmonella is often normal flora in the gut of reptiles, including your Ig.
Most often treatment isn't needed.
However sometimes there can be an overgrowth which can cause problems. This is where the culture sensitivity test comes into play. It can determine which meds will reduce the salmonella
to a point where it is back to a managable level.
One of my lizards had an overgrowth of salmonella,
he was a very sick little guy and was passing blood clots. He was treated with a sulfa drug. The vets told us his prognosis was very poor. But alas with 10 days of treatments he was back to his old self and thrives today.
So this is just an example were treament was needed.
Sounds to me your Ig is doing ok since it's eating well and seems otherwise healthy.
I would get another vets opinion on the matter and see if treatment is really needed. Be sure the culture sensitivity test is done first before doing any treatment at all.
