Purchase v. Adoption

I'm looking into getting my first Iguana and have been doing alot of research and I would like to get some opinions on whether or not to adopt an older Iguana from a Herp Society or to "Save" / raise a younger one from a pet store. Seems to me like the choice is between the lesser of two evils.
