I sat dowm today and figured out if it was worth it to insulate my cage. Because it would be REALLY expensive to insulate a cage as big as I am planning. The way I figured it out was by figuring out how much it would cost for one year for the extra heat I would have to provide if I didn't insulate it. I used 250 watts as the energy required for the extra heat if I didn't insulate. When I did the calculations I used my lowest kilowatts per hour that I have ever paid for electricity and fewier hours of heat than I would actually have to provide. Those lower numbers would make the final cost for a year in extra heat lower than it would actually be. With the cost of insulating and amount that I would have to pay extra in heat per year I find out that the insulation would pay for itself in less than 2 years. So everthing after that would be money I am saving. I know it isn't tons of money per day but it adds up quick when you look at a year. So my most obvious question is: Why don't people insulate their cages?
Even if I halved the amout of additionaal heat from 250 W to 125 W it still makes since to insulate the cage. Is there something I'm not getting? I asked my dad today about building a big cage and having lights/heater in it to make part of cage 80 degrees and he said "So it needs to be insulated..." So it seems like it is obvious enough. I would love all the feedback I could get.
