I totally agree with you and Harry's dad about iguanas need a lot to look around at
(it's part of being an iguana.) And again I don't mean this as a flame just something I
have noted: Most cages that are enclosed are only glass/plexiglass in the front and
most cages regardless of type are placed against a wall(sometimes even a corner)so
they don't take up much space and they are also usually built so that the depth is the
smallest measurement so huge amounts of area would not be obscured and the parts
that are are also against the wall so there wouldn't much action there anyway. I am
pretty sure you would agree that there is no "perfect" cage so you would letting your
iggy out everyday to add more quality to it's life. I think the best cage is an outdoor
cage for numerous reasons (I am sure you know what I am talking about.) The
reason i posted was that one could save a a good amount of money by do this. The
best way I know to illustrate this is to point out that James Hatfield's ultimate iguana
cage doesn't use any thing to heat it. It is heated by the ballast in the fluorescent lights
which weren't put in to provide heat but to provide light. So basically his heating cost
is zero, it is simply a side effect from lighting.
I was modest in all my calculations and was still surprised by by the cost for running
a 250 w bulb for 10 hours a day for 6 months.
I don't mean this as a flame, just want to provide more info. Yes making the sides
(and front) out of glass as opposed to just wire would make a huge difference in heat
retention. But it should be noted that glass is a very poor insulator with a R value
lower than 1 (i have exact value at my house) and 2" rigid foam (like hatfield uses)
has an R value 14.5
