In Reply to: Iguana Bites.. posted by Traci on August 13, 1999 at 11:57:22:
: I posted about two months ago when my little iguana bit me on the knuckle of my index finger. I posted about the way it broke the skin and the weird way it swelled up like a marble on top of my knuckle vs the whole finger swelling.
: That was close to 6-8 weeks ago..
: I visited the doctor yesterday.... to get a cortisone injection in the finger to try to get the knuckle to reabsorb the 'cyst' or scar tissue that has formed. (Doc isn't sure exactly what it is.. his best guess was a cyst or possibly the scar tissue) I cannot bend the finger all the way, full day of typing hurts, and god forbid I tap that finger into something. I have 1 1/2 weeks for it to heal completely before being sent to a hand surgeon.
: Have ANY of you had anything like this happen from an iguana bite?! He' just a little guy, barely a foot long..
: Just curious.
You probably didn't clean out the bite well enough when the iguana bit you. Reptiles can carry some very harmful bacteria, such as Graham negative bacteria.
Whenever a reptile bites you, you should have it looked at just in case. Even if it's a minor bite.
