: Depending on the severity of the bite....no, I don't think a run to the dr. is necessary EVERY time :o) However, it is very important that any wound be cleaned thoroughly (whether done by an iguana or not). Don't know if you've seen the write up at Melissa Kaplan's site re reptile bites so I'm leaving you that website. It has some specific advice re bad iguana bites.
: Does your doctor know that this was done by an iguana? It may be that you need a round of a certain antibiotic (even this late in the game) to completely rid your body of an infection. Sounds like "something" got up under that knuckle cap and has taken up residency (LOL I'm not a dr. either). My youngest son was bitten once by a squirrel (long story). The original ER dr. put him on one med.; 2 days later when his finger joint was swollen & he was in pain we went to his personal dr. She researched it and switched him to a different med. more designed for the "bugs" in animals' mouths.
: Perhaps it's a simple case of needing to try one more round of antibiotics. Hope so!
: P.S. For those of us who are continually getting scratched (or worse) by our iguanas, it would be wise to make sure that old tetanus is still effective :o)
I'll ask him about it.. I DID tell them it was an iguana bite 'cuz he walked in reading the chart and said, "You have an iguana?" I replied, "No, I have three.." He looked at me very, very strangely and said, "Okay... well, then, let's see that finger!"
And the tetanus shot was two years ago after being bitten by a mouse that was being fed to a snake. I had to explain that to the nurse (why I needed the shot and then HOW I managed to get bit by a mouse) I SWEAR she made it hurt on purpose.. ;>
Thanks for the link.. I'll check it out.
