Yep it can be normal for some, but not all iguanas act this way. You might want to try putting Garoot into a large dog/cat carrier or a box. Seems to keep some iguanas calm.

You're spoiling him! Why don't you try moving his tank close to his tree/shelf. Feed him in the tank. The next day, feed him on TOP of the tank, and so on and so on until you have him where you'd like him.
