To start, as I have stated before, I am not an Iguana person. My favorite reptile is A. piscvorus, the Cottenmouth. I love hot snakes. And I hope to keep Gaboon Vipers, someday. Someday soon.
Howsomever, when my daughter dragged home a badly, but not intentionaly, mistreated Green Iguana, known to y'all as The Green Garoot, how could I send it away? We intend to give this animal the best care we can. And the fratious beast is looking a hell of a lot better.
All too many unqualifisd people purchase these beautilul lizards, not realizing that they get BIG! Checking around - if I am going to have an animal, I am going to try to learn as much as I can - I have discovered that some really scungy pet dealers sell hatchlings as "Dwarfs". The customer, buying a neat-looking lizard for his kid doesn't know that it will get to 5+ feet long and be as strong as, well, stronger than me.
It takes a dedication to keep an animal such as this, and you don't need me to tell you that.
To be fair, some folks know it going in and others suddnly find out, and after some inital dismay (like mine but I already knew) turn into confirmed Iguana people.
There are medium and large Iguanas up for adoption all over the place, it seems, and that's a damned shame. We can't use another one and probably neither can you. So what's to become of the rest?
The answer's a bummer and I object to it! I'd have objected a long time ago if I'd known.
I hate restrictive laws, but can't there be something to require not only a care sheet but an accurate discription of the animal be given with each sale? Might save a lot of suffering for the animal, and it's keeper as well.
