The main problem with oyster shell is not because it's because it's high in animal protein (because it's actually not animal protein in the least, it's pure calcium carbonate.) It's bad because the shell filters the sea water, which is full of impurities, and the impurities are retained in the shell. I do agree, however, that oyster suppliments are bad news. I *believe* that I found this information in Frye's book, and Donaghue mentioned it as well. I'll have to go thru Mader's book and see if he says anything about the subject. I'll write back later with some direct quotes.
