About 6-8 months ago, I posted a message regarding our iguana, Ryu, having a small
patch of irregular scales, and a couple readers wrote back advising me to take him to a
vet right away, which I did. Dr. Rosskopf couldn't identify the problem, and since I said it
was likely not an injury, he prescribed antibiotics & silvadene cream. The treated area
remained unchanged until 3 weeks ago, when I noticed 4 more affected scales adjacent to
the original ones. I returned to Dr. Roskopf & he again prescribed silvadene cream for 1
week. Now, although the new growth isn't as noticeable, the original scales are more
pronounced and raised. Dr. Roskopf advised returning for an exam and some blood
work, as the problem may be internal. This will cost an additional $125+ for lab work &
exam or $90+ for lab work only. I made an appointment for July 26, but am hoping to
find a less costly solution before then, as I have spent over $300 on vet bills in under a
year & am a single parent with a son starting college in the fall.
Ryu is almost 6 yrs. old & weighs 8.5 lbs. He has a good appetite, is active appears
healthy, except for this scale problem, which looks like a tiny volcano. I'm at work, but I
think it is about 1/4" in diameter with about 8-12 affected scales in a circular shape.
