: Avian & Exotic Hospital is VERY expensive(been there twice!)....but Im very surprised that Dr. Rosskoph was unable to identify the problem. Where is it located? Are the scales turning colors (yellowish, gray velvet, dry like they are dying off? He never biopsied it? I'd insist on a biopsy and culture. Sounds like a bacterial infection...something that the a/bs should of taken care of or at least reduced in size if given as perscribed....Very strange. The only thing is that perhaps the a/bs were not the drug of choice for that particular bacteria. Here's a link to ARAV...Id find another vet that doesn't cost no where near as much.Call and get price quotes for office visits, blood panels, cultures before deciding. I have found an excellant vet for my herps....but I have to drive quite a distance....but he's cheap $20.oo office visit and $4.00 fecals...if its something he can't handle he refers me out like he has just a few times. Here's the link...I wish you so much luck...if you have a no confidence kind of feeling with Dr. Rossk then search out for a more affordable one! This link only posts names and addresses you gotta call directory information for numbers!
BabyHerp: Thanks for your quick & helpful response. I will call those places tomorrow. The location is Ryu's left side, between his from & hind legs & between his (big) belly & spikes. Just now, I got tweezers & picked off all the "rotten" scales. They all had black, moldy-looking borders & they were what comprised the volcano-like appearance. Now, there are just a few irregularly shaped (elongated) scales with a blackish-grayish moldy-looking deposit between 4 scales & in the center of the 4 scales is a small concentration of the black icky-looking stuff. With regard to Dr. Rosskopf, Dr. Rosskopf, I don't feel he's incompetent-I just think that when a pet has been taken to the vet 3 times for the same unresolved problem, as a courtesy, the 3rd visit should be gratis.
Where do you live, BabyHerp?
