smooth front caimen

i have a smooth front caimen and i had him with my alligator and he is not getten along with the gator, do u think i can put the caimen in a 20 long tank but the tank has a crack in it so if i have alot of land and a water bowl for the water or this would not be suitable.. thanks hes only a small 8 inch guy
