Substrate for the Crocodilians

Good afternoon everyone
I was wondering what substrate you guys use? I am using Cypress mulch and river rocks. Few days ago, my girlfriend and I went to LOWES. She brought this "evironment free wood pellets fuel" for her ferrets litter box. I never had heard of this pellet being used as litter and I was wondering if it can be used for Crocodilian's substrate? Just wanted a feedback on substrates and see how you guys think of the wood pellets as substrate.
Anyone of you use outdoor carpet for the crocs? Any problems with it?
