This is the second time I have written here, I recieved a number of responces from people about the desert tortoise I found in idaho. I have done a bunch of research and found it to definatly be a desert tortoise. I have allowed it to stay inside because of the bitter cold temps. outside but I noticed the other day that his eyes are a bit puffy. It is only 4 inches maybe, and I dont think it would survive out in the cold right now. It has been in deep hibernation in a terarium for the past 2 months or so. I'm wondering how to keep the temp. cold enough for it, but not too hot. I also need to know wheather I should let him hibernate because he's not outside. He has a wonderful yard to live in, set up off of info I found on desert tortoise.com, but I think it's too cold for him here. the ground freezes about two feet deep in the winter. I was also wondering how I go about getting it registered. I would take it back to vegas and let it go in the wild but I have read some pretty harsh things about doing that...If it has always been a pet it would die quickly...I may not put it close enough to water and plus he wouldn't know where it is to begin with. so any help on registering it would be good as well.
thanks
