Hi Matt,
I've spoken to you via email about some of the things you've posted, but I want to be sure to post this publicly.
Under no circumstances should you release a captive desert tortoise back into the wild. That tortoise can spread whatever illness it may have to wild populations. URTD kills many of this already threatened species. It is believed that URTD was introduced to wild CDTs via released captives.
And it is illegal to release a captive desert tortoise into the wild.
