I don’t understand the relevance of tortoises that develop pyramiding if they live near fields of French beans if the beans are deadly. They must evidently be eating something other than French beans. Perhaps it is the pesticides that are used in the feilds that contributed to the pyramiding. I guess there are no easy answers.
I agree with you that diet is very important for the health and development of a tortoise. I believe that when we see pyramiding we need to look at diet as well as the environment and other husbandry techniques.
