Only deadly in the long term, Richard. Not instantly! Over a period their phytic acid content inhibits mineral uptake, their protein content causes rapid growth (bone and keratin), and their purine content also boosts their damage to the renal system. Animals on pea/bean diets usually expire from kidney failure - but this takes a few years to manifest.
