Just did a little shipping/tempeture experiment.. LOOK!!

Okay, I would have bet the farm things would have gone the other way with this. So I guess it's time I eat crow. Here's what I did:

1) Standard shipping box lined with one-inch styro. This is heavy-duty styro used in construction, coated on one side with a type of foil.

2) Cool hard pack from chest freezer (colder then normal) placed in box.

3) Digital thermometer with both in/out temps as well as high low was placed in the box.

I then placed this box in the back seat of my car with the outside probe hanging out of the sealed box. I left it there for 18 hours, the normal shipping time through the whole hot part of the day (1am-8pm). It was exposed to sun as if it sat on a hot runway for a portion of the time. After just checking the box I was AMAZED at what I found. I would have honestly bet money a snake in the package would have been fine.

The outside high/low was 145/73.4 degrees.
The inside high/low was 129/62.6 degrees.

You can see from that a snake would have never lived. I've yet to have any troubles shipping and I will try this again tonight and change the times to my normal shipping and arrival times (5-6pm and 10-12am). I will also not use the same extreme tempeture; maybe I'll use the trunk of the car.
