Does anyone know if kitty litter is toxic?

I have this idea. I want to set up a second enclosure for my snakes, colubrids, with kitty litter as substrate. Here's the plan. Feed my snakes in their first cage, the one with wood chips, and then a day later, move them into the other tank with the kitty litter. After they fininsh passing the meal, they can go back to the other tank, and the kitty litter will be more easily cleaned, and the regular tank stays cleaner. But I'm just a little concerned that therer may be additives in the kitty litter that might be toxic. Anyone know????
