: I have this idea. I want to set up a second enclosure for my snakes, colubrids, with kitty litter as substrate. Here's the plan. Feed my snakes in their first cage, the one with wood chips, and then a day later, move them into the other tank with the kitty litter. After they fininsh passing the meal, they can go back to the other tank, and the kitty litter will be more easily cleaned, and the regular tank stays cleaner. But I'm just a little concerned that therer may be additives in the kitty litter that might be toxic. Anyone know????
: thanks

I would just use about 4 0r 5 layers of news paper. The more layers the more absorbent. I have never had any trouble using newspaper with any of my snakes. I don't like to feed any reptile on wood chips of any kind too paranoid of them getting "splinters" in their mouths or even worse internal injury's. Another personal favorite of mine that I use for looks is astroturf on top of a few layers of newspaper.
