My female bairdi will eat anything I give her, but my male has always been finicky. He doesn't like mice with hair. He's been eating nothing but pinkies since July, and always in the privacy of a dark bag. Actually, the one time he tried a weaned mouse, he spit it back up. I guess it was a tad too big and he got scared off them.
Anyway, today I tried with a live hopper. It was avg hopper size, so it was about 1/3 larger in diameter than he is. He showed instant interest, nailed it, constricted it(1st time ever, so I guess its an innate behavior), and consumed it all in public view.
I'm hoping that this will spark interest in f/t weaned mice now, but if not, I'll scent them with the litter from a mouse cage.
By the way, the female is consequently a bit larger and robust, and I'm thinking its due to her diet.
