Funny you should bring that up. My western hog is an amazingly aggressive eater right now, but she shut down for the entire winter, even though I didn't want to brumate her. I was almost frantic, since I was new to hogs and she was but a hatchling.
Yeah, I know about the fickle hognose.
Surprisingly to me, my Sonoran gopher did the same thing, nearly. Last year, my male was not brumated. In what I later considered a response to that, plus a cage change, he stopped eating in August (Its HOT here in Austin in August) and I eventually went ahead and brumated him in December. Since I woke him Jan. 15th, he's back to his former voracious self.
