: Trinket snakes make good captives and stay fairly small. I'm wondering why you are choosing to go with this species as opposed to a corn snake. Corns seems to tame a little better are generally more colorful but to each their own. I used to breed trinkets and my females were typically larger than the males. Females did get into the 3-4 foot range while the males stayed 2-3 feet in length. This may be your difference in lengths you have heard. Trinkets have the ability to breed successfully year round if they are maintained well. As far as you fear of snakes if concerned you will just need to slowly acclimate. Don't force yourself but realize that any dog or cat has the same if not more ability to bite with more damage. Hope this helps a little.
First of all, thank you for your information on the trinket snake. As for your question of my preferences, I really don't have one. My son held a baby snow corn snake and loved it. The only problem with it is that I was told that they can get up to 6 feet long, and with my son being only 7, I didn't want it to get too big for him to handle. The other reason is the cost difference. The corn snake costs $59.95 and the trinket snake only costs $34.95. My son has saved his own money from allowance and recycling aluminum to get a snake. (I want him to know that things like this cost alot of money.) We were trying to keep the cost and the size down for his sake more than anything. I have never seen a trinket snake, so I don't know the coloring. I do have to admit, the snow corn snake is beautiful. I think I'll let him decide once we get there. I just wanted to make sure that the snake we choose will be a good one for him as well as the rest of the family. He is going to have it out EVERY chance he gets. I have heard horror stories about snakes squeezing children to death and DON'T want anything like that happening to Steven(7) or Jhenna(5). I figured that if we kept the snake small, the chance of anything like that happening, would be less. Any other thoughts would be appreciated!
