In Reply to: Help! Fire-bellied newt lost its front right leg... posted by Jeffrey on July 12, 2001 at 20:13:42:
Hi,
Well, the obvious first comment is move it to a different tank!
I'd actually move the toad; the newt will be stressed and you don't want to scare him more. Hopefully someone with treatment ideas will post; they will probably recommend dabbing something on the stump (neosporin or something, but take it from them; I don't know much about what to treat a ripped off arm/leg with).
Just keep him comfortable and well fed. If he pulls through; he'll regenerate it (I bought a firebelly with no front arm, and after a while he got the whole thing back!).
Good luck,
Matt
: I came home today from work and my newt is missing a front right leg. It shares a 10 gallon with a fire-bellied toad. It looks like its suffering. Any suggestions???
