House Bill 3065 had its first reading in the Oregon House of Representatives on 7 March 2003, and was assigned to the Judiciary Committee, and referred to the Joint Ways and Means Committee on 17 March 2003. It would have the effect of banning the possession of the following reptiles unless the possessor has applied to the Oregon State Department of Agriculture for a permit by 1 July 2004 (i.e., no permits after that): crocodiles, alligators, caimans, all boids that may grow to more than 8 feet, boomslangs, African twig snakes, all elapids, keelback snakes, water monitors, crocodile monitors, and all viperids. The bill has not been set for a hearing (as far as I can tell). The bill also bans certain exotic mammals. You can get information about this bill and the members of the Ways and Means Committee by going to www.oregon.gov, clicking on "popular sites," clicking on "legislature," and following the somewhat complicated menu from there. You can contact me for a PDF copy of the bill and a list of Ways and Means Committee members.
