Greetings,
I discovered a reptile vet (finally) in the area and took my Eastern, Fred, in for a checkup. For quite some time, his tongue has not been forked and he has had an excess of saliva in his mouth - not dripping, mind you, but enough as to where the front glass of his cage gets spotted very quickly as he touches it with his face and gets saliva on the glass --- does this make sense?
He is eating well; always has and seems healthy for the most part. The tongue and the excess saliva have been worrisome to say the least and with no vet in the are (until now) I have been biding my time and monitoring his condition. In fact, I have posted here before and received some good suggestions, but without a vet to prescribe... well... you get the idea.
Anyway, the vet told me that Fred has a low grade mouth infection. He is about 5.5' and weighs about 1.6 Kg. The vet injected him with 0.7ml of Baytril, and prescribed additional doses of 0.7ml given orally with food every three days until the 22.7ml supply is gone. He also suggested raising the cage temp to around 85 degrees F or so.
What do you guys think? I just want to make sure the treatment makes sense to experienced Drymarchon keepers out there in case the vet (who admittedly has seen few indigos) is mistaken.
Thanks for all your help,
Landon Johnson
