: However, Ive seen many false water cobras--infact the snake store i go to in san jose has a large one for sale--there was no lable on the tank and just by looking at it i thought it was a drymarchon--but they set me straight.
: Can somebody elaborate on what a Spilote is? Any other common names? Where are they from?
Spilotes is a tropical American genus. They are arboreal, generally long and slender. Imports are often parasitized; group is rarely captive bred. Beautiful snakes, black and yellow. They have a reputation for bad behavior, but this is likely based on wild caught adults. They feed like indigos, nonconstrictors which gobble up a wide variety of prey. Also have indigos high rate of metabolism. Maybe captive raised Spilotes would be good pets. Who knows.
