:Sounds to me like most of the back yard is not going to be used by them anyway...covered over with noxious plants, and of uneven elevation, it doesn't seem a place to be picnicking.

Clear what they can, keep it clear, & learn as much as they can about the local snakes, particularly how to identify them. No need to be killing snakes.
