They want to put up a fence, because they have a couple of dogs. BUT the
fence would fence in at least part of the habitat of the snakes. They
are afraid that that will put the snakes in their yard permanently. I tried
to explain that a snake can get through a fence, but I am not sure if
they mean a wire fence or something more permanent. Remember that I am
talking to people who do NOT like snakes in general.
AT LEAST they are not immediately assuming that they have to kill every
snake they find.

::Sounds to me like most of the back yard is not going to be used by them anyway...covered over with noxious plants, and of uneven elevation, it doesn't seem a place to be picnicking.

:Clear what they can, keep it clear, & learn as much as they can about the local snakes, particularly how to identify them. No need to be killing snakes.
