Our home backs up to a greenbelt and is less than a block away from a good sized pond. In the 3 years I've lived here, I've seen 3 cottonmouth water moccasins on my property.

Is there anything I can do? I have 4 children, 3 of which are 8 and under. We have a dog and 2 cats in the yard. Right now I just tell the older kids to look before putting hands in bushes and remind them occasionally of snakes, and pray a lot! Waht worries me is the toddler. He doesn't know to look.

We are getting A LOT of rain right now. (San Antonio) Does this bring them out? What about when it's really dry, do they come to yards looknig for water?

Also, what to do in case of a bite? Besides 911, I've heard conflicting info. Should you suck the venom out? Waht about ice and turnicats?

Any info would be helpful!!
