Hi all,
I just got a hatchling Matamata (2 1/2" long) and would love some advice on how to feed it. What I'm doing now is feeding it rosie reds that I have living in a twenty gallon underneath his tank, where they are fed Reptomin for a week and allowed to clean out their systems.
I feed one fish per day right now (should I feed two?). I net the rosie, put him under scalding hot water to kill it just about instantly, and then I slip one or two pieces of Reptomin down it's throat because I can't get the turtle to eat the Reptomin otherwise. I'm also thinking of making a paste twice a week from water and Herptivite, Calcium and Minerall and using a syringe to squirt it down the fishes throat. Does that make sense? Can any ill come from feeding a fish that has been killed by running it under hot water?
And finally, what should I do about parasites? Should I use some med once every six months or so to clean out any variants the fish may have introduced? If yes, then what should I use and how much of it?
Thanks so much for any help. I want to make sure this guy gets the best possible.
Very Best,
Tony
