Having personally used reptile carpet before I can tell you firsthand that it is a total pain in the butt. It has to be cleaned often - it begins smelling horribly moldy after just a few mistings - which means taking everything in the tank sitting on it out of the tank and also having several pieces available for the tank since it has to line dry so you have to have another piece already dry and ready to go in. I got over it very quickly eventhough I chose it for the same reasons of not wanting messy bed-a-beast. However I have found that there are ways around that - if you're a real plant person, plant a ground cover plant in the tank to grow across the b-a-b. I have all fake plants so I have several driftwood pieces as well as large river rocks placed throughout my tanks and my frogs will move about from one object to the next hardly touching the b-a-b. Much easier IMO - paper towels work too, I just don't like having to uproot everything in the tank anymore often than I have to in order to clean. Hope this helps!
