Hi, I don't get frazzled on the forum, guess my writing style is
such. Considering my job, this is hardly a big deal, I just try
to help.
The argument that Mazuri isn't in the wild can also be applied
to grocery greens though, so without those, what can you tell
people to feed, since most people with torts unfortunantly live
where they have to add food. Even with a decent yard, most
torts aren't going to be able to feed themselves on it, some
people will be that lucky but most won't. Tortoises that
have not had any pellet supplements turn up quite pyramided here,
so that wishful thinking won't fly. I think it's just better
to tell people the truth, that they won't be able to grow
grazing mix forever (oh, it'll be cute at first sure), to feed
a mini-cow indoors during the winter. Many people have a difficult
if not impossible time getting young hatchlings to eat something
as objectional as coarse hay. If they will, great for them.
Just trying to keep people open to real alternatives.
I don't feed Teddy only Mazuri, of course not. He gets greens
and grazes also. (I wish he would eat hay believe me).
Go buy 2 green peppers, one head of escarole times 7, there's
your weekly grocery bill, plus additions of squashes (all types),
and different things for as much variety as is possible in the
US, compared to the natural grasses in Africa, certainly not
even close.
