He's right about giving the animal the choice. I understand you want your animal to get big quickly, but if you do this, you run the risk of having an obese animal. Obese also means lazy. You don't want an animal that just eats and goes under the light and doesnt do anything. I suggest you keep your basking light at somewhere around 120 (I personally keep it at 110-100 basking light, but I'm going to boost it to this probably tonight, I also think that 140 is way to high, but that may work for a larger animal, i have a baby)..and then the other side of the cage to be 75-80 during the day.
