i used to use a rigid heavy duty freestanding pond shell that you can get at any home improvement store...they come in all shapes and sizes and can be used indoors or on a porch. the basking lamp can be clamped to the side, and often a shelf is built into it for basking. unfortunately for us apartment dwellers, sometimes an aquaruim is more appropriate.
