You never specified where you now are keeping the turtles. Some veterinarians that specialize in chelonians also are closely watched by local wildlife agencies. It is a federal law that states allowed to sell them retain such until a length of 10cm is reached. I can understand your vets concerns. You may try asking him/her for advice. They will generally give you a clean bill of health that way...Hope this helps..

:I have two baby RES a little over an inch in diameter. I bought them in Florida. I wanted to take them to a vet just to get them checked over. First is this necessary? Second, i finally found a vet that specializes in turts and this might sound silly, but she can't take them away from me right? I know you're not allowed to sell turts under 4 inches, but i bought mine this size. I'm just nervous the vet will try and take them away bc its technically illegal to have them when they are this small right? :(
