My RES for some reason don't go after grey fish, while rosie minnows and goldfish are chased relentlessly. I never tried cichleds, they are known to be aggressive, so they kind of scare me. Guppies last a long time and even breed and reproduce in my tank. Mine also ignore ghost shrimp, although they did eat a crayfish.
