Ok agreed. They are the same thing. (Dissecting and examining a dead body.) Also that the 'general' usage has become autopsy-human , necropsy-animal. You beat me to the punch on saying that vets use the term autopsy to the 'civilians' because nearly everyone knows the meaning of that word vs necropsy.
