Here are a couple of (lousy) shots of the black Eastern Coachwhip I caught here in SE TX a couple of weeks ago. It shed, but still has a few scars. The white spaces between the scales are the result of the 5 hoppers he ate yesterday (he took the first one alive, but after watching that struggle I decided to prekill the others. He ate them all readily.)
Sorry about the terrible shots, but this snake hasn't ever heard that old phrase about not biting the face that feeds you!
He is basically a 4 foot jet black snake, except for the last 2-3 inches of his tail which is a pinkish tan.
