It is aggressive. I actually haven't handled it at all since I caught it (it was opaque) but it certainly resents me opening its cage!
I have noticed that eastern coachwhips are a lot more high strung than westerns, or at least, a lot more likely to act out on their high strung tendencies.
For example, this pic was taken while my friend held the tail of a Western in Central TX
If you did this with an eastern, it would be too busy attacking the holder to get a decent shot, in my experience.
