At 2 months old my 2 painteds and 2 miss.maps made 20 rosie reds dissappear in less than a week. No scraps, no debris, no fish left, and all this while being fed twice a day. These guys are voracious. I put the fish in more as decoration, knowing that the boys would eat them if they could catch them. The rosies never knew what hit them. They chased them relentlessly. I got a kick out of it because I had read on a turtle site that fish was not considered a staple part of a turtles natural diet, because it was assumed that turtles were not quick enough to catch them. My guys put a stinger missile through that theory.
My wife and I hold krill in our fingertips and make them rip it free. I've got to cut the red wigglers up and feed them seperately because if I toss it in whole, the four-way tug-o-war that ensues is just to scary to watch. The struggle to overcome just a piece of live wiggler is entertainment enough.
More feeding stories later, Checker.
